Friday August 6, 2021 Hedwig and The Angry Inch at The Smith

Hedwig tells the story of an immigrant from communist East Berlin named Hanschel and how he becomes the “internationally ignored song stylist” known as Hedwig after a botched sex change operation. This outrageous and unexpectedly hilarious story is dazzlingly performed by Hedwig in the form of a rock gig/stand-up comedy routine backed by the hard-rocking band “The Angry Inch.”

Using songs and monologues Hedwig tells the audience of her past tribulations and heartbreak from an American GI and a geeky boy named Tommy Speck who she falls in love with only for him to steal her songs and achieve Rock Star fame. With a little help from her band and her back-up singer Yitzhak, Hedwig examines her quest for her other half, for love, and ultimately for her identity.

WINNER OF 4 TONY AWARDS for Best Revival of a musical and featuring a groundbreaking rock musical score by Stephen Trask, Hedwig and the Angry Inch is hilarious, harrowing, and essentially uplifting for anyone who has felt life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile.

Friday August 13, 2021 The Jacob Joliff Band at The Smith

The Jacob Jolliff Band is the next generation of bluegrass supergroups, led by one of the country’s premier contemporary bluegrass mandolinists. Before joining Yonder Mountain String Band, Jacob Jolliff founded beloved New England roots band Joy Kills Sorrow, while attending Berklee School of Music on a full scholarship. In 2012, Jolliff had the distinctive honor of being named the National Mandolin Championship winner. A fixture of the national bluegrass community, he has collaborated and shared the stage with Darol Anger, Sam Bush, Ronnie McCoury, Jerry Douglas, Chris Thile, and David Grisman to name a few. When Joy Kills Sorrow disbanded in 2014, Jolliff got the call to join Yonder Mountain String Band, in which he was a member until 2020.

The Jacob Jolliff Band is a rotating quartet of some of the most virtuosic and innovative young acoustic pickers in the country, including Alex Hargreaves, on fiddle. Considered one of best improvising violinists in the world, Hargreaves is the winner of The Grand Masters Fiddle Championship and a regular member of Chris Thile’s Live From Here band. Other members of the JJB include Stash Wyslouch on guitar (The Deadly Gentleman, The Stash! Band, and Molsky’s Mountain Drifters) and bassists Myles Sloniker and Max Johnson (Sarah Jarosz, Ricky Skaggs). The specific band lineup changes and is subject to availability.

October, 2021
Day(s) Date(s) Event
Saturday October 2, 2021 1964 THE TRIBUTE at The Smith

“1964” focuses on the quintessential moment in history, when The Beatles actually played before a LIVE audience.

The Beatles toured the world in the early 1960’s, but now only a precious few remain who actually saw them LIVE. Who actually felt the “mania” that brought them to world acclaim. Today, all that remains are a few scant memories and some captured images in pictures and on poor quality film and video.

“1964” meticulously re-creates the “MAGIC” of those LIVE Beatles’ performances with artful precision and unerring accuracy. For those that never saw The Beatles LIVE and always wanted to know what it must have been like…this is as close as anyone could possibly get to…FEELING the MAGIC!

For over 30 years, “1964” has thrilled audiences with what is considered to be the most authentic and endearing tribute to The Beatles. This has been accomplished by a steady and consistent cast of talented professional musicians, who painstakingly recreate the look, feel and note for note sound of an actual LIVE Beatles performance.
